Jannen Renaissance Scholar Award
By: Akanksha Thakur
As graduation grows near, our graduating seniors have the opportunity to receive a number of awards from Trine University. Coming up soon is the Jannen Renaissance Scholar Award, which is awarded to two main campus graduating seniors who exhibit a breadth of interest and accomplishment consistent with Renaissance ideals. One award goes to a student from the Allen School of Engineering or the Rinker-Ross School of Health Sciences, and one award goes to a student from the Jannen School of Arts and Sciences, the Ketner School of Business, or the Franks School of Education. The award is open to all main campus graduating seniors and the application deadline is March 1, 2021 by 8 a.m.
The Jannen Renaissance Scholar Award was started in 1991 by Dr. Robert L. Jannen. This award was created to highlight the achievements of well-rounded students who go above and beyond, not just in their coursework, but in all aspects of their lives on campus. The award recognizes diversity in students’ interests and involvement. For example, a recipient of this award may be an engineer who loves to paint, thus displaying passions from diverse categories, being both analytical and creative. Another example can be a student who is majoring in math, but has a minor in communications. Students applying for this award should have a variety of skills and interests that go beyond their intended major by being involved in various activities such as sports, arts, creative writing, and others. Our previous award recipients from 2020 include Jarrod Davis, a communications alum, and Brooke Hardy, a chemical engineering alum.
The Jannen School of Arts and Sciences encourages all well-rounded, main campus, graduating seniors to apply for this award by sending their resume and cover letter, highlighting their skills and diversity, to Dr. Jeanette Goddard. The application deadline is March 1, 2021 by 8 AM. The Jannen Renaissance Scholar Award is funded by the Humanities Institute--made up of various professors and faculty members passionate about humanities--who then review the applications and select their best candidate for the award.
