ASN Writing Center Breaks Personal Record
By Alexis Crawford
The Amy Sayler-Nicholls Writing Center held its end-of-the-year meeting after the Fall 2021 semester and noticed some exciting growth of the program.
The numbers showed an increase in clientele from August 30 to December 10 of 2021. In the fall of 2020, the total number of student visits reached 187. The center was able to bring in almost three times as many people, reaching a total of 557 for the fall 2021 semester.
The Writing Center held tutor sessions in several different formats to accommodate students. Students could meet through pre-scheduled face-to-face appointments, via online with Zoom, receive feedback through E-tutoring, or walk into the center to receive quick help from available tutors on their own time. The center also focused on holding in-class workshops that allowed tutors to assist students with any questions they might have regarding major assignments for specific classes. Many professors continue to include the Writing Center as a main resource for important papers and assignments so that students are able to utilize the facility throughout the semester.
The success of the main campus’s Writing Center has allowed Dr. Janelle Pulczinski to explore the expansion of the center to Trine’s Fort Wayne campus.
The Writing Center is located in the LINK of the Rick and Vicki James University Center, Room 129. The operating hours for the center are Monday-Friday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and evening E-tutoring appointments can be made Monday-Thursday from 6-8 p.m. for the Spring 2022 semester. Appointments can be booked by creating an account and scheduling a session with a tutor by using Trine’s Writing Center's online calendar.
