Black Student Union to Host Art Show

By Alexis Crawford

The Black Student Union of Trine University is set to host The Black Excellence Art Show on Feb. 24 from 5-7 p.m. in the T. Furth Center of Performing Arts.

“This art show was created to reflect what Black art means to us; Excellence and pride,” shared Abdi Mohamed, President of Trine’s Black Student Union.

The main purpose of the scheduled event is to recognize the Black community for their creativity and shine a light on Black artists. The event will be open for all to attend and will include a live painting by Phresh Laundry. Theopolis Smith III, also known as Phresh Laundry, is a self-taught artist that is originally from St. Louis, Missouri. His art takes on inspiration from pop culture and caricature style with a unique approach.

The Black Student Union would like to acknowledge the negative narrative that society often places upon the Black community and highlighting Black creators during Black History Month is a positive step toward rewriting the narrative.
