Housing Requirements

Why Live On Campus?

Living at Trine is more than just convenience; it's an essential part of your university experience. On-campus housing connects you to a vibrant, diverse community that fosters academic success, personal growth, and meaningful connections.

Trine University is a residential campus. This means that students are required to live on campus during their time as a student.

The Residential Room and Board Contract is a binding agreement for the entire academic year.  Students residing in campus housing must be enrolled full-time (minimum of 12 credit hours).  This contract cannot be terminated at the end of the fall semester, except in cases of graduation from Trine University, internship/co-op opportunity, student teaching, or studying abroad.  Any student who cancels or breaks their housing contract on or after August 1, 2025, will be responsible for the full room and board charges for the entire contract term.

Incoming students who cancel their enrollment through the Office of Admissions on or before May 1st will receive a full refund of their $150 One-Time Housing Fee.  Failure to give written notification by May 1 will result in forfeiture of the $150 One-Time Housing Fee.

All students must have the written approval from the Housing Department prior to moving off campus. Students must submit the Request to Move Off-Campus form. If a student fails to receive a proper contract release or provides false information, then the student may be subject to room and board charges for the entire contract term and additional actions up to and including dismissal from Trine University.

Students who meet one of the following criteria may submit a Request to Move Off-Campus form to the housing and residential life department, but are not guaranteed approval:

  • Students who are married (with proof of marriage certificate)
  • Responsible for a dependent child (with proof of birth certificate)
  • Living at home with a parent or legal guardian (within 50 miles of Angola)
  • 22 years of age on or by August 1, 2026 (Students previously enrolled in the 2024-2025 school year or earlier will need to be 21 years of age on or before the annual August 1 deadline).
  • Students with a cumulative GPA of a 2.0 or higher who have completed 60 credit hours and lived on campus for four semesters, may be approved to move into a University recognized Sorority / Fraternity House or Christian Campus House.

Qualifying for an exemption does not guarantee a residency waiver.

Meal Plans

Meal Plans

All residential students are required to purchase a 10 or 19-meal plan provided by Bon Appetit.  The Trine student ID card will serve as the student's meal card.

All 10 and 19-meal plans include an additional $75 flexible spending account per semester. These flex dollars do not roll over from semester to semester.

The last day to decrease a meal plan for a full refund for fall semester 2025 was Monday, August 25th. Students can increase a meal plan at any time but the cost will not be pro-rated.

To change a meal plan, students must visit or contact Housing via email at housing@trine.edu or phone 260.665.4646.

Commuters, as well as students living in the Villas, university-owned houses, or spaces with a private kitchen, can either decline a meal plan or select from any meal plan offered, including a 50-meals-per-semester plan.  To select or decline a meal plan, contact Housing or do so through the housing portal while filling out the commuter application.

Special diet meals are provided by dining services for any student on the meal plan. Advanced notice is requested in order to prepare the special diet meals. Contact Bon Appetit for more information.
