Dias de los Muertos display honors Ana Boman

October 23, 2026

Students with traditional masks standing in front of ofrendaIsabel Soto, instructor, and her Spanish students have created an ofrenda (decorated altar) honoring Ana Boman, who taught Spanish in Trine University’s Department of Humanities and Communication for 16 years before she passed away last year.

Día de los Muertos, celebrated Nov. 1–2, is a Mexican tradition honoring loved ones who have passed away through photographs, flowers, shared memories and a moment of silence. This tribute held special meaning for Soto.

“We remembered an educator whose kindness and love of language touched many lives. I shared a close bond with Ana and lovingly remember her warmth and kindness,” she said. “A heartfelt thank-you to the students and our administrative assistant, Amber Ellert, for their amazing support, creativity and care in making this beautiful tribute possible.”

The display will remain outside Wells Theater in Taylor Hall through Nov. 2. More photos are available on SmugMug.
