Trine humanities, communication students honored

Trine University’s Department of Humanities and Communication Department recognized its outstanding students for 2024 during a ceremony in Wells Theater on April 18.

The event began with the induction of new students into the Hispanic Honor Society, Sigma Delta Pi (Alpha Beta Nu Chapter at Trine University). Two students were inducted: Kennedy Jester, an exercise science major from Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Valentina Brooks, a psychology major from Greenfield, Indiana.

Lauren Banks, a communication major from Angola, Indiana, was named Outstanding Senior in Humanities and Communication.

Lydia Roop, an English major from Decatur, Indiana, received the Needler-McGregor Excellence in English Award, the Jannen Renaissance Award, given to graduating seniors who exhibit a breadth of interest and accomplishment consistent with Renaissance ideals, and the Mal Foerster Backstage Award.          

Danielle Gargiulo, a chemical engineering major from Downers Grove, Illinois, also received the Jannen Renaissance Award.

Three students were named Outstanding Freshmen in Humanities and Communication: Brooklyn Kerry, a communication major from Coldwater, Michigan, Aowyn Myers, an English major from Hudson, Indiana, and Caleb Elliott, a communication major from Muncie, Indiana.

Rex Chapman-Shadik, a criminal justice major from Hillsdale, Michigan, was named the Outstanding Senior Writing Center Tutor.     

The Golden Microphone Award, given for excellence in media production, was presented to Nicholas Woolley, a communication major from Shorewood, Illinois, and Matthew Stillman, a communication major from New Lenox, Illinois.

Penny Fish, a non-degree senior from Fremont, Indiana, was named the Outstanding Spanish Student.

Maurice Ehichioya, a communication major from Nigeria, received the Jeanine Samuelson Mentorship Award. The Samuelson award is presented to a well-rounded and successful member of the Department of Humanities and Communication who has been nominated by their classmates.
