Two inside sales managers for Major League Soccer’s Chicago Fire talk about their
work and career paths in the newest episode of Trine University’s Center for Sports Studies podcast.
Carlos Ames and Sam Bocken serve as co-managers of the Fire’s Inside Sales Academy.
After a career in ticket sales with the New York Mets, Ames was tapped to start the
Fire’s Sales Academy last year. Bocken, also a graduate of the Mets Sales Academy,
came to Chicago within the past five months to assist Ames in growing the MLS in Chicago.
In their role, Ames and Bocken are responsible for hiring new sales representatives
and training them to sell individual, group and season ticket packages.
In the podcast, they break down how inside sales work in professional sports, discuss
their career paths and why having the courage to leave home can accelerate your sports
career, and share advice for students looking to break into sports sales.
Produced through the Trine Broadcasting Network, the Trine Center for Sports Studies
podcast focuses on the business side of sports, including interviews with sports professionals
and current research in sports studies. Hosted by Center for Sports Studies director
Brandon Podgorski, the podcast is available at css.transistor.fm, on platforms such as Spotify, iTunes, Google Play and Stitcher, and on YouTube.
