Track

Interested in a career in physical therapy? The pre-physical therapy professional track is designed for students preparing to apply to the Trine University Doctor of Physical Therapy program (DPT) or another DPT program in the United States. This track can be associated with any major.

First-year students who have achieved superior academic performance in high school may apply for the Trine University DPT Direct Entry program. Learn more about the Direct Entry program.

From Pre-PT to DPT

Trine's pre-physical therapy professional track enables students in any major to prepare for application to its Doctor of Physical Therapy program and other DPT programs in the United States. Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better to stay in the track. Students in the program are evaluated in their final year via benchmark interviews that address the following characteristics of a successful physical therapy program applicant:

  • development of personal and professional qualities
  • physical therapy or graduate school applications
  • community service, research, and leadership experiences

Establishing Expectations

The program gives the opportunities for guidance from physical therapy faculty and interaction with Trine University's Doctor of Physical Therapy program and establishes realistic expectations for success. First-year students may also qualify for a $2,000 scholarship.

Additional Information

 

The students in the Pre-Physical Therapy Professional Track are encouraged to demonstrate their interest in the physical therapy field by completing clinical observation experiences. Students are in charge of arranging their own clinical observations. Trine's Career Services can provide assistance.

Trine student honored at ‘Realizing the Dream’

INDIANAPOLIS — Bethany Morgan Schmitt, a Trine University sophomore from Fort Wayne, Indiana, majoring in exercise science/pre-physical therapy, was one of 29 first-generation Indiana college students named as a “Realizing the Dream” recipient by the Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI).
