Cold Case Unit
About Our Program
The Cold Case Unit is an initiative open to all Trine University residential students who are working on completing their undergraduate degree and have a desire and passion to work on cold cases in the region.
While all majors are accepted to apply, the program is competitive and comprised of elite students that supersede in all facets of academia.
Mission
The mission of the Trine University Cold Case Unit is to inspire and accelerate the practitioner experience for students who have a passion and desire to make an impact in investigations.
Academic Credit
Students in the Cold Case Unit are eligible to serve a minimum of 1 semester or a maximum of 2 semesters.
The Cold Case Unit is an academic program that is also a class. The classes completed during this initiative are either:
- CRJ 413: Suspect Development & Elimination
- and/or
- CRJ 403 Evidence Dissection & Processing
All Criminal Justice, Forensic Science, and Psychology majors are eligible to earn internship credit for course completion.
To Apply
Applications are accepted two times per year:
- Fall deadline: March 1
- Spring deadline: October 1
Student requirements:
- Junior/Senior status
- 3.5 GPA required
- 2 letters of recommendation from Trine University professors
- Recommendation should highlight academic participation, attendance, class presence, leadership qualities, and professional demeanor in classes
- 1-page letter of interest
- Current resume
- CRJ 453 & CRJ 243 Prerequisite completion
