Jeremy Goossens, director of esports and industry innovation at Trine University,
was named Director of the Season by ECAC Esports, the comprehensive collegiate esports
league where Trine competes, for spring 2026.
ECAC announced the recognition as part of its Coach of the Season and Director of
the Season honors.
Trine University’s esports program is ranked among the top 10 largest ECAC programs,
out of 441 total. The program has won six national championships.
During the spring season, Trine’s Overwatch esports team qualified for the first ECAC
National Founders Invitational, held in May in San Antonio, Texas.
Selections were based on cumulative performance across the Fall and Spring Division
I seasons, with the top four teams in each title qualifying.
Jonah Kyle, a computer science and information technology major from Valparaiso, Indiana,
received the Forge Scholastic Esports Championship 2026 Uncommon Player Award at event.
With teams spanning North America, ECAC hosts two seasons each year: one in the fall
and one in the spring. Each season features a seven-week regular season, which is
formatted either as a round-robin or Swiss style, depending on the game. This is followed
by a playoff period lasting three or four weeks.
