Trine University continued its esports dominance in the spring semester, picking up individual and team national titles as well as multiple top three finishes.
Playing in front of a packed Mark and Sarah Music/Ruoff Mortgage Esports Arena on April 24, Trine’s Overwatch team won its second ECAC national title in a row.
The team of Jonah Kyle, a computer science and information technology major from Valparaiso, Indiana, Logan Gault, a computer engineering major from Indianapolis, Hudson Kelly, a computer science and information technology major from LaGrange, Indiana, Elton Langley, a computer science and information technology major from Indianapolis, Brockstan Tschannen, an extended reality major from Angola, Indiana, and Nick Lauro, a computer science and information technology major from Columbus, Ohio, had advanced two divisions after winning a national title in the fall semester as well.
Despite playing in the higher division for the first time and starting the group stage 0-2, the team won the playoffs without dropping a single point. Trine defeated the University of South Florida 3-0, John Brown University 3-0, Army West Point 4-0 and Merrimack University 4-0.

On March 31, Ethan Watkins, a computer engineering major from Wabash, Indiana, won the national title for ECAC division B in Teamfight Tactics.
In the final, he faced players from Wayne State College, Penn State Behrend, Rochester Institute of Technology, St. Clair College, the University of Michigan-Flint, University of Idaho and George Washington, finishing first out of 46.
In TeamFight Tactics, players draft a team that battles automatically on their behalf.
Trine teammate Aaron Philips, a chemical engineering major from Marengo, Illinois, finished19th out of 30 in Division A. Nicholas Kaiser, a computer engineering major from Granger, Indiana, finished 40th out of 46 in Division B.
The spring semester also saw Trine’s Rainbow6 Siege and League of Legends teams finish second at nationals, and Super Smash Bros and Valorant finish third.

The Humanities Institute at Trine University will host a discussion on Thursday, Nov. 6, with two professional artists about their work as well as how anyone can bring more creativity and inspiration into their life.
Students in Trine University’s Capstone in Sport Management class defeated a team from the University of New Mexico at a Fall Showcase event for the National Collegiate Sports Sales Championship (NCSSC) competition on Oct. 22.
Twenty-five Trine University students, along with high school students from Angola and Kendallville, learned how learned how drones aid law enforcement during a special presentation on Oct. 20.
