Trine announces cast for ‘The Matchmaker’

Trine University Theatre has announced the cast and crew for its upcoming production of “The Matchmaker,” by Thornton Wilder.

The play will be performed at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, April 11 and 12, and at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 13, in the T. Furth Center for Performing Arts.

Tickets are $10 each for the general public, $5 for students 12-18, and free to Trine students and employees. They will be on sale beginning Friday, Feb. 2, at trine.link/tickets.

In “The Matchmaker,” Horace Vandergelder wants to get married; his niece and an artist want to get married; his clerks want to have an adventure; and Vandergelder’s potential wife and her assistant want to have some fun. The problem is that Vandergelder is committed to making sure no one else gets their dreams. At the center of it all is Dolly Levi, the matchmaker extraordinaire, who spins Vandergelder’s expectations out of control.

Cast members are as follows:

  • Sean Carpenter, a mechanical engineering major from Fort Wayne, Indiana, playing Cornelius Hackle.
  • Travis Elliott, a mathematics education major from Wollcottville, Indiana, playing August.
  • Alexander Fosnaugh, an English and communications major from Huntertown, Indiana, playing Rudolph.
  • Dominic Garner, a computer and information technology major from Garrett, Indiana, playing Gerald and Cook.
  • Benjamin Hercules, a design engineering technology major from New Franklin, Ohio, playing Ambrose Kemper.
  • Benton Knox, a mechanical engineering major from Lawrence, Indiana, playing Horace Vandergelder.
  • Tyler Kreider, a biology major from Shelbyville, Indiana, playing Malachi Stack.
  • Evyenia Lawley, a biology education major from Valparaiso, Indiana, playing Ermengarde and Minnie Fay.
  • Ryan Long, a communications major from Allen Park, Michigan, playing Mrs. Van Huysen.
  • Muriel Mackie, a marketing major from Hillsdale, Michigan, playing Mrs. Irene Molloy.
  • Ty Morgan, an exercise science major from Hudson, Michigan, playing Joe Scanlon and Cabman.
  • Aidan Smith, a mechanical engineering major from Connersville, Indiana, playing Barnaby Tucker.
  • Katie Woolley, an elementary education major from Plainfield, Indiana, playing Mrs. Dolly Levi.

Lou Ann Homan, Trine lecturer, is serving as director, with assistance from Lydia Roop, an English major from Decatur, Indiana, and Jason Branch, a psychology major from Chesterfield, Virginia.

Adjunct faculty member Joanna Claudy will oversee costumes. Tim Hopp, Ph.D., professor in Trine’s Department of Humanities and Communication, is producer for the play.

The Trine Theatre program is part of the university’s Department of Humanities and Communication.
