‘Carol’ premiere: Hollywood is coming to Angola, Indiana

Movie premieres involve much more than the movie itself, and those attending the premiere of Carol on Dec. 5 at Trine University will have the opportunity to get a taste of the glamour that goes along with such an event.

From 4-5 p.m., prior to the first showing at 5:30, members of the cast and producers will arrive by limousine and enter the T. Furth Center for Performing Arts via red carpet, stopping for premiere photos in front of a backdrop with the movie logo on their way into the building.

Among those making their entrance by limo will be Aaron Fullan (Solomon Lynch), Meggie Jenny (Christmas Past), Austin and Frannie Rae Cash Cain (Penelope Crandall), Paul Kandarian (Ebenezer Scrooge), Shannen Fields (Mrs. Lynch), Elias Kemuel (Tim Crandall) and Corey Pena (Abbott Mayflower), along with producers James and Shannon Tew, George and Kary Johnson and Orlando Kemuel Rodriguez.

“We know many people are excited for the premiere of Carol, and we hope as many as possible are able to come early and cheer on the cast as they make their way into the Furth Center and Ryan Concert Hall,” said James Tew.

Cast and producers will be in formal wear, but Tew said audience members are welcome to dress as they wish.

“We encourage anyone who wants to dress up and join in on the fun,” he said. “However, we also know a lot of people are just looking for a fun night at the movies in their T-shirt and jeans, and that’s fine too. Above all, we want everyone to be comfortable and enjoy the movie and its positive message.”

The Carol premiere will see the Ryan Concert Hall outfitted with a larger screen and added equipment for a Dolby Atmos immersive sound experience. Concessions will be available on the first floor of the Furth Center.

After each showing, audience members will be able to go to the lower level of the Furth Center to meet the cast and pose in front of the Carol backdrop as well as a Christmas tree decorated just like one of the trees in the movie.

Carol will premiere in the Ryan Concert Hall of the T. Furth Center for Performing Arts at 5:30 and 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5. Tickets are still available at trine.edu/furthtickets.

About ‘Carol’

Inspired by Charles Dickens’ classic “A Christmas Carol,” Carol tells the story of Solomon Lynch, a self-centered slacker and the resident Scrooge of the small, struggling town of Springdale, Indiana. Estranged from his family, Solomon comes face-to-face with the real Ebenezer Scrooge on Christmas Eve and is taken on a musical journey through his past, present and future.

While the story uses devices and characters from “A Christmas Carol,” it includes its own unique twists and turns, with diverse musical styles, poignant moments and humor throughout the film.

In the end, it will take much more than Christmas spirit for Solomon to make things right.
