Three alumni honored with awards

ANGOLA, Ind. – Trine University bestowed awards on three alumni during the homecoming football game on Oct. 5.

The Outstanding Achievement Alumni Award was given to William "Bill" Pett, a 1953 graduate with a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering. Pett, of Chesterfield, Mo., has given years of service to Trine. He has served as a member of the alumni board for the past eight years and is active in organizing alumni events in the St. Louis, Mo., area.

The Distinguished Service Alumni Achievement – Young Alumnus Award was given to Andrew Hein, a 1998 graduate with a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering. Hein, of Carmel, is involved with the chemical engineering department at Trine and a consistent financial supporter. A principal at Crown Point Transactions, Chicago and Indianapolis, he was named one of the top 300 global intellectual property strategists in the world. Hein earned his juris doctor degree from Georgetown University in 2003.

The Distinguished Service Alumni Award was given to Jim Bock, a 1954 graduate with a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering and a Trine trustee since 2003. Bock has supported the university through service and financial contributions. The Jim and Joan Bock Center for Innovation and Biomedical Engineering, which was dedicated Oct. 4, is a testament to his dedication and loyalty to Trine.

Students and faculty from Trine University’s Reiners Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering traveled to the University of Notre Dame for the annual American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Indiana-Kentucky Student Symposium, with two Trine teams finishing in the top three of their respective events.
