H.A.C.’s Annual Poe Night Returns Oct. 28

The Haunted Hall of Humanities is back to celebrate Halloween with an evening of campfire storytelling for its seventh annual Poe Night on Wednesday, Oct. 28. The night will begin as the bell tolls 7 p.m. 

Quite different from previous years, the event will see a change of scenery and be held outside at the University Center fire pit. Spooky stories by the fire – truly befitting an autumn evening. Chairs will be set up to ensure social distancing. It might be chilly, so blankets and warm clothes are recommended.

Poe Night is a Trine theatrical tradition directed every year by Lou Ann Homan, adjunct professor and storyteller. Throughout the night, students and staff will recite and act out various stories and poems by American writer and master of macabre, Edgar Allan Poe. 

Drama Club members and speech class students will perform such pieces as “Annabelle Lee,” “Spirits of the Dead,” and “The Bells,” among several others.

Returning community performers include Jacob McNeal, who will present “The Raven,” and Jan Thomas, who will portray one of the witches of Macbeth. Lydia Tremaine will emcee the event.

Poe Night is free to attend for Trine students and faculty. It is not open to the public this year to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. To ensure the safety of performers and attendees, facial coverings and social distancing are required.
