Spotlight on Sarah Stegenga

This year, we welcome another new member to the Jannen School of Arts and Sciences.
Sarah Stegenga is a graduated from Florida State University. She received her Bachelor
of Arts in English with a concentration in Creative Writing and English Education,
and her Master of Arts in English with a concentration in Literature from Florida
State University. She talked about what was behind her choice to study literature
and writing.
“I am passionate about writing and literature as vehicles for expressing and connecting
to our common human experience,” Stegenga said.
Although this is her first year as an official faculty member, she has taught Introduction
to Literature with Trine University’s Dual Enrollment Program since 2016. Over the
course of her career, she has gotten experiences from a variety of educational programs.
“Over the course of my career, I have taught English at the secondary and post-secondary
levels in Florida and Indiana, managed private tutoring centers in Virginia, and owned
a tutoring business in California,” Stegenga said.
Professor Stegenga also talked about what stood out to her when contemplating the
decision to come to Trine University.
“Prior to this semester, I [had only] visited the campus during the winter, so I am surprised by the beauty of the landscaping,” Stegenga said, “ Students are able to make personal connections that might not be possible at larger institutions.”
