I have loved science and the learning about the environment for as long as I can remember. I earned an undergraduate biology degree from the University of Saint Francis and a graduate degree from Purdue Fort Wayne, specializing in aquatic toxicology. My research included determining the effects of exposure to contaminated sediments on invertebrates and how it impacted their population genetics. During graduate school, I got my first exposure to teaching. As part of my graduate teaching assistantship, I taught human anatomy and physiology labs and thoroughly enjoyed it.

After graduate school, I worked for the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) Biology Division collecting fish and invertebrate samples from lakes, rivers and streams all over Indiana. The data collected was used to determine the “health” of the waters of Indiana and also to create the Indiana fish consumption advisory publication. After five years of traveling throughout the state for my job with IDEM, and my second baby on the way, I decided to take a job teaching biology and human anatomy and physiology for Ivy Tech Community College Fort Wayne. I realized pretty quickly that I love teaching college students of all ages and being a part of their journey to achieve their career goals. For the past several years, I have taught human anatomy and physiology at the University of Saint Francis to health science students.

When I’m not at school, I enjoy spending time with my daughters, traveling and reading.
