Kara grew up on her family-owned orchard in Holland, Ohio. Her interest in medicine began during her high school years when she spent time volunteering at a local community hospital.

In 2004 she graduated from Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio with a bachelor’s degree in biology and a minor in Spanish while on an academic and athletic scholarship. During her time at Walsh, she was a four-year varsity captain, leading her team to the Elite 8 in the NAIA tournament. She also was involved in laboratory research at Akron University during her undergraduate years. After college she decided to continue to pursue her love for medicine and become a Physician Assistant. She attended the University of Toledo and received her Master of Science in Biomedical Science in the Physician Assistant program in 2006.

After graduation from the University of Toledo, she began her PA career in Hillsdale, Michigan at a Rural Health Clinic and at Hillsdale Hospital. During her time in Hillsdale, she was able to get the clinic established as a National Health Service Corps site and implemented the loan repayment program through NHSC with the clinic. Her time in the clinic was spent in the family practice discipline while her time at the hospital was internal medicine and gastroenterology specialty. She also served on the diabetic committee for the hospital. While working in primary care and gastroenterology she realized she had a great passion for educating her patients and their families. She also had the opportunity to work with several new graduates and enjoyed helping them get comfortable in starting their career.

In July of 2024, she decided to make a change and transition her focus from educating patients to educating students and took a position as an Assistant Professor at Trine University in the Physician Assistant Studies Program. She is excited to share her passion for medicine with the students and help them to become excellent medical providers in their communities.

Kara currently lives in Coldwater, Michigan with her husband Bradley and their two daughters Jordi and Lola. They enjoy spending their time traveling, boating and being active outdoors. Kara enjoys giving back to her community by volunteering at her daughters’ schools and coaching. She has a passion for sharing knowledge and seeing students excel.
