Debra's journey in healthcare began during her high school years, where she discovered her passion for the field while working as a receptionist at a small rural hospital. Eager to deepen her involvement, she pursued a paramedic certificate during her undergraduate studies, gaining valuable hands-on experience in the field of emergency care.

Continuing her pursuit of excellence, Debra furthered her education at Western Michigan University's Physician Assistant program. Armed with a comprehensive understanding of healthcare principles, she embarked on a career as an emergency medicine Physician Assistant, thriving in the fast-paced environment of the Emergency Care Center at Parkview Health for over two decades. During this time, Debra accumulated a wealth of knowledge and expertise, becoming a trusted and respected healthcare professional in her community.

Transitioning from the intensity of the emergency room, Debra embarked on a new chapter in acute care medicine, finding fulfillment in her role at a walk-in clinic where she continues to provide compassionate care to patients to this day.

Driven by a desire to share her wealth of experience and expertise, Debra embraced the opportunity to become an educator at Trine University's Masters of Physician Assistant Studies program in Fort Wayne, Indiana. In this role, she enjoys the dynamic experience of working with graduate students, helping to shape the next generation of healthcare professionals as they prepare for their careers.

Outside of her professional endeavors, Debra finds joy and fulfillment in her family life. Celebrating 31 years of marriage, she and her spouse are proud parents to two adult daughters, both recently married. Their family recently welcomed their first grandchildren - twin boys born in April 2024, bringing immense happiness and excitement to their lives. Debra finds balance and rejuvenation through staying active, whether it's through walking, playing pickleball, or spending quality time with her loved ones and friends.

With a commitment to excellence and a passion for making a positive impact, Debra strives to inspire and empower her students to reach their full potential and make meaningful contributions to the field of healthcare.
