I completed a BS in Exercise Science and Athletic Training at Ball State University in 2008, received my Doctor of Physical Therapy from Grand Valley State University in 2011 and became a Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Pediatrics by the American Board of Physical Therapy in 2018.
I was fortunate to have figured out my dream career early in my schooling. I knew the plan was to become a physical therapist so I could help the world move and develop long-lasting meaningful relationships. I also knew I wanted to teach, but I wasn’t sure how that would look at the time. Upon graduating from grad school, I started as a traveling physical therapist and got the opportunity to work in multiple settings, with adults and children, as far as Texas. I quickly discovered that my love for pediatrics was strong and I sought out as many pediatric opportunities as I could. In 2013, I settled back down in Fort Wayne, IN, and started practicing as a pediatric physical therapist full-time and continued PRN with my lovely geriatric friends. In 2016, I discovered Trine University and its DPT Program. I learned there was a need for someone that could teach pediatrics and I jumped for it! I started teaching the pediatric series in 2016 and then was hired as a full-time faculty member in 2019. I now teach some of the early foundational classes, the pediatric series, and orthotics and prosthetics. I also continue to practice pediatric physical therapy for children 0 – 3 years in the home and at an outpatient autism center. My research interests have primarily focused on pediatrics and researching factors contributing to that lack of diversity in physical therapy programs.
Outside of my love for pediatrics and physical therapy, is my love for my beautiful wild family. I met my husband, Philip, in high school but did not realize he is a great catch until about 6 years later. Since then, we were married and have the sweetest and wildest boy, Bosten, a rivaling energized girl, Kaia, and our youngest and somewhat chill girl, Ivy. They keep us smiling and out of breath running, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. They also often serve as guest appearances in pediatric courses because the best way to learn involves real-life experiences.
