A wealth of public school experience

Before transitioning to the college level seven years ago, I taught 19 years in the Fremont School Corporation system, including four years of middle school English and 15 years of high school English.

While working in the public school community, I was fortunate to work with students in many extra-curricular capacities. I recently completed 25 years as a high school baseball coach and 10 years as a high school and middle school basketball coach. Additionally, I coached middle school football for seven years, led the middle school Spell Bowl team and Academic Super Bowl team for four years, sponsored the sophomore class for six years, and even produced the middle school yearbook one ill-fated year.

Relying heavily on this experience, I bring a practical hands-on approach to the college experience -- a pragmatic, relational approach that encourages reflection and steady growth. Getting the opportunity to work with future teachers from Freshman Seminar through student teaching is incredibly rewarding.

My wife April is also a teacher, first as an elementary and middle school science teacher in Angola and then as a middle school math teacher in Fremont. We have a son who is in college and a daughter still in high school. Both have influenced our emphasis on student-centered education.
