Sarah Franzen joined Trine University in 2009 and worked as an English faculty member in the Department of Humanities and Communication until 2018. She served as Dean of the Jannen School of Arts and Sciences until 2023, when she moved to the Toledo area and transitioned to a full-time role with TrineOnline. Sarah holds a Ph.D. in literature and criticism from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a master’s degree in education from Indiana University, Bloomington. Her dissertation Alcoholic Republic; Temperate Empire explores the role of the temperance movement in shaping and reflecting the United States’ empiric impulses in the early nineteenth century. Her master’s degree focused on secondary English instruction and TESOL. She now enjoys teaching undergraduate courses, advising graduate students, and hanging out with her husband, two dogs, Pete and Joe, and her cat, Binks.
